The oldest part of the Villa la Massa estate, comprised of the Noble Villa and the Old Mill, dates back to the 16th century. The four towers on the corners of the villa were built much later, in the early 1800's, the same period in which the little chapel was built in the estate gardens. Villa la Massa was first transformed in hotel in the late 1940's. Some 50 years later, in 1998, Jean Marc Droulers acquired the property, thus creating a sister hotel in Florence for the world famous Villa d'Este Hotel of Lake Como.
