Villa Crespi Orta San Giulio
The hotel and restaurant Villa Crespi enjoys a magnificent location immersed in green gardens overlooking lake Orta, on the outskirts of the picturesque town of Orta San Giulio, right in the heart of Italy's Piedmont region.
Villa Crespi was built in 1879 by the prosperous cotton merchant Cristoforo Benigno Crespi. Crespi had travelled extensively in the middle east and it was here that he found inspiration for his residence, which he constructed on land overlooking lake Orta. The villa, in eccentric Moorish style, complete with soaring minaret, richly carved columns, capitals and archways, patterned floors and ornate frescoed ceilings, was Crespi's own personal tribute to the palaces of Bagdad.
In the late 1980's, the villa's current owner Raffaele Esposito, restored the building and transformed the property in luxurious hotel. The individually appointed bedrooms and suites, some of which with wonderfully romantic four poster beds, feature exquisite drapes and upholstery in the finest silk and damasks, and beautiful items of antique furniture. Bathrooms are fitted in the finest Italian marble.
In addition to its unbeatable lakeside location and accommodation, Villa Crespi offers its guests the opportunity to dine in one of Italy's finest restaurants, an eatery which, among its many accolades, has been awarded 2 of the much coveted Michelin stars for its superlative Mediterranean cuisine and impeccable wine list. Chef Antonino Cannavacciuolo, drawing inspiration from both his own southern Italian origins and the culinary traditions of Piedmont, creates innovative dishes prepared using only the freshest premium ingredients.
