Relais della Rovere enjoys an enchanting position in the picturesque Tuscan countryside, within easy reach of the towns of Colle Val d'Elsa, San Gimignano and Siena, and just 45minutes away from Florence.
First mention of the Relais della Rovere has been found in documents dating back to the early 11th century when the historic residence functioned as influential abbey belonging to the Bishop of Volterra, feudatory of the Holy Roman Empire. Some centuries later, towards the end of the 15th century, Cardinal Giuliano della Rovere, later Pope Giulio II, chose the abbey as his sumptuous Tuscan residence, adding a house for himself and subsequent bishops.
In the late 1990's the whole estate underwent extensive restoration work, which brought to light many previously hidden features and led to the complex being transformed in quite unique 4 star hotel.
Relais della Rovere has a total of 30 guest bedrooms and suites, located in the main villa and the adjoining ex convent building. Many of the rooms feature exquisite period pieces and superb bathrooms with whirlpool tubs. Guests spend the days exploring the Tuscan countryside or any of the fascinating historic towns all situated within short driving distance of the Relais, or relax at the hotel, lounging in the sun or taking a dip in the pool.
The Relais della Rovere's "Enoteca il Cardinale" restaurant, serves delicious traditional Tuscan cuisine and accompanied by a careful selection of regional wines.

Relais della Rovere is situated half way between Siena and Florence, close to Colle Val d'Elsa, in "La Badia". An ideal base for those wishing to explore an area of Tuscany simply brimming with places of great historical and artistic importance; from the great Tuscan cities of Florence and Siena, to the hill top towns of Monteriggioni, San Gimignano, and Volterra. From here, the strikingly beautiful landscapes of the Crete Senesi and the Chianti region are within easy reach.
Those travelling by car should follow the A1 Motorway from Rome to Florence and exit at Val di Chiana. From here, follow the indications for Siena, then proceed towards Florence exiting at Colle Val D'Elsa.
