La Posta Vecchia Ladispoli

The name of the Relais & Chateux, La Posta Vecchia, derives from its use in later centuries as Carriage House, when it provided shelter and sustenance to the mail stages travelling along the coast north of Rome. The wealthy American industrialist, Jean Paul Getty, purchased the property in 1960 and initiated extensive restoration work involving the whole estate. The restoration work led to the discovery of the remains of an ancient Roman villa, remains which are today exhibited in the small archaeological museum located in the basement of the hotel.

Many of the precious artefacts which still adorn the rooms of La Posta Vecchia were brought to the villa by Getty and were part of his private collection of items acquired during his extensive travels throughout the world. After Getty's death, the villa was converted in luxury hotel, a hotel which retains all the atmosphere of an elegant private home. The 19 bedrooms and suites of La Posta Vecchia, affording enchanting views of the sea or hotel gardens, are all beautifully appointed with precious fabrics, rare pieces of art, and polychrome marble and majolica floors.
