L'Orto degli Angeli Bevagna

L'Orto degli Angeli is located in the walled village of Bevagna, site of an ancient Roman settlement, in the heart of the Umbria region. The beautiful historic residence comprised of Palazzo Alberti and Palazzo Andreozzi, has been masterly restored by the present owner, Francesco Antonini dei Conti Angeli Nieri Mongalli, whose family has lived here since 1788.

Nine individually appointed rooms are located in the elegant 18th century Palazzo Andreozzi, each named after one of the Angels portrayed in the exquisite frescoes which adorn the building. A further 5 apartments or "case" have been created in Palazzo Alberti. These rooms, bearing names in early Italian, represent a fascinating mixture of architectural styles; revealing glimpses of ancient Roman masonry and details typical of Medieval Umbria.

The hanging garden located between the two Palazzi, lies on the site of the principal ambulatory of the Mevania Roman theatre, built under the rule of Emperor Trajan in the 1st century AD, next to the "sacred" area of the old town, where the remains of two Roman Temples are still visible.

L'Orto degli Angeli's "Redibis" restaurant also occupies part of the old Roman theatre. In this quite unique ambience, guests are treated to superb modern Umbrian cuisine, inspired by the highly prized seasonal products of the region.
