Castello di Petroia Scritto di Gubbio

The recent subject of an extensive restoration project, Umbria's Castello di Petroia, located in the countryside just beyond the gates of the Medieval city of Gubbio, has been masterly transformed in one of the region's finest historic residences. The fortified complex was built in the 12th century in a strategic hilltop position overlooking the Chiascio valley and is comprised of three distinct buildings: the Castellare Maggiore, the Castellare Minore and the Torre Mastio.

All but one of Castello Petroia's wonderfully romantic guest bedrooms are situated in the Castellare Maggiore and Castellare Minore. Exposed wooden beams, period furnishings, and carefully selected works of art feature in the rooms, many of which have the additional appeal of a charming open fireplace. The bathrooms in the most luxurious of the suites are fitted with whirlpool bathtub. The Torre Mastio, Castello Petroia's impressive medieval watch tower, has been transformed in a magnificent four floor apartment. On the highest floor of the tower there is a terrace from where to enjoy breathtaking views of a landscape which, in centuries past, inspired artists such as Piero della Francesca and Perugino.

A hearty breakfast is served to guests each morning in Castello di Petrioa's Sala Guidubaldo. The hotel restaurant is situated in the Sala degli Accomandugi, a magnificent venue where to savour the highly acclaimed cuisine of Umbria. A number of elegant function rooms are available for small scale business and social events. In the beautifully kept grounds of the castle, there is an attractive swimming pool and a practice range for golfers.
